how can i keep a neighborhood cat away from my lawn & garden?

I've tried all the suggestions in the newspaper and nothing works. The cats come and go as they please. The suggestions were Cayenne Pepper concoctions, dog or wolf pee, humane traps.

Technically a person is responsible for his/her pet. But in the same sense...cats are outside everywhere so there really is no control over them. Even the owners can't control their cats because cats do whatever they want and it is hard to keep a cat indoors 24/7. All I know is to spray it with water cuz they hate water and eventually it will quit coming around.

Water hose or plastic pellet gun

Are you sure it is the cat pooping on your lawn? Cats usually bury their poop. We get visits from foxes and they poop anywhere. The best thing is to get either a cat yourself or a dog.

Buy a dog or hose the cat down.

I have had this same problem for years now. I bought some new patio chairs with pads a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't until me and my wife came in from sitting out one evening, that we found we had cat hair all over us. We get the cat crap also. People have told me to mix rat poison in tuna and leave it out or radiatior fluid. I just can't bring myself to doing either. I think I might get a trap from the spca and catch that cat. How would that look if my neighbor saw me hauling off their cat. I don't know what to do either.
